Custom 18650 Battery Pack with Clamped Cells (no soldering on cells)

The datahseet suggests there were flammability tests conducted on poron. It has ratings appropriate for our usage.

From what I understood there is no way it will combust with a spark (or repeated sparks) if it passed those tests. https://www.sp.se/en/index/services/vehicles/ss_iso_3795/sidor/default.aspx https://www.ulttc.com/en/solutions/test-methods/combustion-fire/flammability/flammability-ul-94-hbf.html

ex: Light with flame of 38mm height for 60 seconds over a sheet of material. Criteria to pass HBF ratings

  • Burning rate ≤ 40mm over a distance of 100 mm
  • Flame or glow is extinguished before 125 mm mark

This test is what convinced me that it was fine for flammability. (example test not done on poron)

I am not a mechanical engineer though.

edit: I had to repair a copper solder to wire a BMS voltage probe (no cells in the pack yet) and the heat on the copper melted some of the plastic of the case but not the poron.

So you had no luck with nickel plating and abandoned your project? I nearly backed out myself. The intention was to build 10s and 14s packs for bikes but constrains were always in my mind bothering me that with so much work put in, there will be little demand. Then wandering in my house Nese modules clicked out of the blue. I had a orinter for a month and that lead to nearly 24/7 cad and printing. … Did you got my module or was it your case that melted?

My case melted. Not your module.
