Hey. I’ll be starting my first long board build soon. I was hoping before I started anyone could let me know of any potential compatibility or functionality errors with the parts I’ve chosen. Here’s my spec:
Board: custom (will be building it from scratch by sticking two 4mm and one 6mm pieces of beech plywood together with waterproof wood glue then covering with wood glaze and grip tape. The method is outlined in the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_ImE0sRnfM)
I’m very partial to the VESC so if it were me, I’d swap the car ESC for that. Other than that, looks quite good. Maybe a 6355 motor instead of a 5055? If you’re only going with a single motor setup, I’d do that or even a 6374
hey rpn, thanks for the advice. i think i’ll go with your advice and upgrade to the 6374. as for the vesc again, I’ll take your advice. I’m thinking of going for the Torque ESC VESC:
diy-electric-skateboard-kits-parts/vesc-the-best-electric-skateboard-esc/
but can’t find many reviews. do you think it would be worth going higher to something like Ollin board’s 4.12 vesc or is it not worth it?
The only other suggestion I would make is X5 os the cheap 2s zippys in series for 10s total. You will need to do some soldering and it’s best to use a BMS.
I’ve haven’t heard of too many issues with those. Ollin makes a very solid board and frankly you can’t get much better right now. Axle (@zmoney on here) may be another one to consider. If you’re at all considering FOC, I’d say go Ollin.
Agree with @rpn314 on @zmoney’s Axle VESC option - if he has them in stock and ready to go. They have the upgraded BOM similar to @Chaka’s older non-direct-fet version. Improved over most 4.12 VESC including DIYes (which is also good).
Best but $$ - Chaka/Ollin direct FET
FOCBOX - VESC-X (direct FET from Enertion)
Axle 4.12 VESC w/ upgraded BOM
DIYes
