This is true for smaller connectors. In my experience the XT90s are big enough that they don’t get deformed very easily.

the factory tend spray machine oil everywhere when manufacturing these. I always dunk all my connectors in a de-greasing solution before soldering to remove any nasty residue from the factory process.
