POLL: Flipsky information in one place

My 4.20 dual arrives today. I should get it all plumbed in and get time on it this afternoon

This is dependent on the motors you’re using really and I expect those settings are split between two motors.

Just try with 30A batt max on the Dual4.20, keeping all my motor parameter at 20A. Trying full throttle a bit uphill but all of that at low speed regarding all the issues already happened… No faults here, I pull full trigger most time, accelerate braking etc Just made a short record ride at lunch break, this is with the new setup : 20A Motor Max -20A Motor min 30 Amps Batt Max -15A Batt min 10s bldc sensoreless (little dual 5065 140kv) old setup : will do a longuer ride tonight, and at the end pushing a bit more. :v:

Edit: looking to the end of the new test (1st metr window) got the same reccord has when I got faults Over Intensity when braking hard in long downhill … Now I go more easy on the brake but it -35A motor current and just after that +56A !? And Im downhill trying to stop me front of home so Im not re-accelerating here …

Plus I can see 56.4 max motor current with a setup at +20A/motor for motor max, ?

I have found that 30 motor amps and 50 battery amps is the magic spot. speed, torque…all is reasonably responsive. I wouldn’t put these in a racing board, but for an inexpensive mid-range VESC these are the way to go.

Cool Mike ! Still in bldc ? Yes, true that it could handle cool cruise ride, but I’m a bit skeptic when you suddenly need more and play hard with the throttle, I’m sure I could if I would make faults still happened but knowing this … I will ride it like a cruise board. Hope the next version will be perfect, even if it’s not 12s, but we need it perfectly safe and handle at list 30A perfectly :innocent:

So, I’m still trying to figure at what will be the good parameter and safe parameter here with better torque, for my board setup ? Tonight I will make it at 30 motor max and 35 batt max (as my motor are rated for 34 amps). And after my classic 5km test ring around the house I will try to set all FOC …

Yeah, still in BLDC. Im having some issues getting a good FOC detection but I think its my motors. Im going to try it in another deck with known goof FOC detections and see what happens.

I don’t understand how bad hardware design can be justified by using sub-par settings. There’s obviously a problem, using low settings is only masking the issue.

I dont think its a bad hardware design. It was designed to be a mid-level speed controller, it does that well. Its better than the eBay/Chinese proprietary ESC’s by a lot, yet cheaper than dual FocBox’s. I don’t see what your issue is.

Like TB vescs and others on the same price range (or even higher) are better. There is always a trade-off.

Running a single 6374 with the Flip6.6 & 10s3p 30q setup.

MM= 60A MB= -50A/-60A BM= 40A BR= -12

Max 30mph, mostly cruise at 20-24mph. Running this setup for the past 2 months. Hasn’t been an issue besides an extremely hot NC summer day going up a decent hill. Weather was around 95, with 70% humidity. Grade hill was around 15%.

Besides that one time during that extremely hot day, it hasn’t hiccuped at all. Very impressed with how it has been going. Wish I had a dual setup to test it on my dual 6374 or even my dual 6355 setup.

Ok e-riders :slightly_smiling_face: Tonight ride was with this setup : Work almost perfect, but on 3 hard long braking, I got the throttle/brake cut … just like that … I got to re-arm it to make it work again … weird and it does report faults just once with a Over Current… Apart of that got a bit more torque maybe, but it’s still really wick … Got some full throttle time always :smile: I hurry to get my custom motor mount, when I will pass in Quattro mode it should help them a lot !

Hi folks.

@Hummie reached out and said flipsky was looking for some help/tips and also wanted to know where to donate and what not. So i put them in contact with BV. Here is the official response from BV (yes he exists) regarding the flipsky dual;

"Hi,

I had a quick look at the document with the feedback, and users seem to have both overcurrent and drv faults. To me it sounds like there are layout problems with the power stage and/or the current sensing signal path. Making the power stage right is quite tricky, and the vesc4 still had some issues after all revisions. I also made some designs before the V4 that didn’t work well at all, that I never published. The VESC6 is the first layout where I got the power stage right, making it run extremely well even on the most demanding setups.

Also, using only two shunts is a lot more challenging for getting the signal path right, as the sampling interval gets very short in the worst case during high modulation. Personally I won’t make new design with only two shunts any more, as three shunts is much more stable and gives a significantly more linear and smoother acceleration. For new designs that focus on low cost, I would recommend something like the DRV8305 with three low-side shunt amplifiers. Three phase shunts with external amps such as the INA240 as the VESC6 has is better of course, but three low side shunts are still far better than only two shunts.

If you want to, I can have a quick look at your gerber files and see if there are any obvious problems."

So thats status so far. Just thought that everyone should be on the same page.

cheers.

Still good results Mike? Have you tried upping the motor amps?

Actually just rode it. Using 30a motor max and 50a battery max per motor, no cutouts & no errors.

But why are you only at 30 for motor max? You found that it is enough for your needs or you had trouble with higher amps?

Over 30 I get cutouts.

It’s probably not as bad at 30 motor amps with a pulley but I like 100!

Maybe I missed something above but the 6.6 on the other hand is showing totally capable and the few that broke in the last group buy (all by the same person and his suspect motor) flipsky told him to send them back for repairs.

Doing another group buy for the 6.6 only.

Dual 6.6, was working great on 12s, but poped a few chips just being put aside on a table.

Maybe a strong conformal coating on them is worth doing
