Shorted motor possibly blew Vesc?

I recently found out one of my motor screws was shorting my motor.

This is what I’m guessing has caused my Vesc HD-60T slave side to stop working. But would a shorted motor be capable of blowing the whole thing? I would off thought it would still power up and show a fault code or something.
