Spot welding advice?

I am trying to make a battery and I got a Sequre SQ1 spot welder. Running a 1000CA auto battery to support it. battery is brand new and fully charged. Anyway, I am having a hell of a time making quality welds. They are super hit or miss. Some are outstanding, others are horrible. I have tried pulse duration ranging from 35 - 75ms. I can keep adding more and more heat, but I find usually running anything over 55ms makes the weld worse. Like, it gets too hot. Any advice? I thought spot welding would be really easy… I guess not.

They create a gap in nickle strip, to focus the energy in the right place. You should press firmly. Have clean copper tips. Allow cooling time between welds. Use .15 thick if a questionable welder. Maybe even use alcohol to clean. Dont allow too wide between probes. Make sure you have proper gage wires, and good contact on batt. Only use 100 percent nickle strip. Keep wires to batt short.
