Trampa decks elephant in the room

@darkkevind

Ok, I see what you’re saying. Thanks for the reply! So this is CF specific? I have a couple bamboo skate decks with concave and flex. I’m assuming bamboo and maple allows for a small amount of stretch (or compression rather)?

Im confused i thought Trampa decks are a thermoplastic composite ie “nylon and weave fiber”

The boys up at Subsonic skateboards do carbon fiber layers top and bottom on sutom decks. The concave isnt as sharp as on a maple and fiberglass deck, but this thing is a tank and carves great.

They’re neither carbon fiber nor glass fiber composite… My bet is on something more like micarta, composite material made out of resin and textile fabric.

I had a chance to stand on trampa steer carver and I couldn’t imagine riding it at high speed without bindings, I feel much more in control when am strapped to my mountainboard. However my friend whose board it was, says it felt sketchy at the beginning but he got used to riding it like that.

I love my Trampa mountainboard, wouldn’t change a thing on it, the deck feels alive and dampens lots of vibrations while riding offroad, I have no issue with it being “flat” with no concave, because I use bindings with footstraps.

I’m kind under the assumption its something like/akin to a heavy duty ballistic nylon weave and nylon ply layers heat bonded/baked, but as said assumption.

Two things. Carbon fiber decks suck ass compared to wood. Decks with no concave suck even more. Flat mountainboard decks serve a purpose very well -on the mountain-. Ok, three things.

I agree, wouldn’t even consider trying to ride one of these w/out bindings, even if the steering was looser (camber seems like it would be super awkward). With bindings, I really have no complaints, but there is something to be said about the off center concave on the new mbs decks:

Kinda locks your feet into position. Like I said, I prefer the camber and flex over the concave if I had to choose, just thought it would be cool to combine the two somehow if possible.

Except get UL certification if you wanted to sell boards commercially

All I can see in your picture is “Damn broski you need to charge your battery” ha ha

It also won’t hold my hand, open the door for me or tuck me in it might…but I don’t want it to do that either.

So, what about having some type of raised concavity, like out of rubber or something, then covering w/Trampa tread? http://www.trampaboards.com/black-trampa-treads--superior-grip-for-your-deck-p-628.html

Would there be any downside to this, other than added weight?

Lots of people use foam to create concave, no reason it shouldn’t work. Would def make for a much better board.

Thanks man, any idea what type of foam is normally used for this?

I’ve seen people use Landyachtz Hammer Soft Top grip tape to make 3d concave. Never tried it myself, but it looks cool.

if you check out muir skate they have some inserts to give 3d shape to a board.

Apparently ducktape and yoga mats work well too: https://stoked.la/blogs/how-tos/how-to-create-3d-concave

You could also 3d print some pieces of the concave you want and put the grip on top
