VX1 controller pairing

hi guys,

can u help me with connecting my vx1 remote to receiver. my receiver that came with controller broke so i bought replacement receiver and now i am not sure how to connect them. I have connected receiver to vesc 4.12 and turned it on, then, i turned on vx1 remote but they wont connect automatically

This is going to sound dumb but did you put the remote into pairing mode by holding the two buttons?
