Will this work? 70mm solid wheels, generic longboard deck and trucks

this is what brought me to esk8

Motor detection works well hurray. Using my handy 24v headlight lamp current limiter with integrated switch, I have saved MANY electronics with this little device, I always use it to power up things the first time, case something goes wrong ( I have the bad habit to solder stuff with reverse polarity LOL ).

noticed also it doesnt play a tune during startup like all other ESCs :disappointed: was expecting something cool like star wars

distribution board under the batteries. can you spot the error?

Just noticed my axles are bent… hope it does not give me problems with the drive pulley. OMG now I feel that I need to buy trucks. I gathered Caliber II 50 is the way to go, right?

cant go wrong with them.

The calculations gave me 5 teeth in mesh. So - an Idler pulley was installed (with no modifications to MM) . I couldn’t find the minimum radius for this pulley.

all ready to roll. YAY just waiting for the nunchuck to arrive. might get eager and use a wired one I have at home hah

Waste of money. doesnt even power up.

Aaaaaand the VESC is history.

IDK how… I rode it for some 10 min the other day NP. Today while pushing the board unpowered ( just a couple of meters ) I felt the brakes kick in… not good. IDK if this is the cause but… I dint read anything about pushing the board.

Sine I dont have a car RC controller, wired ADC to some handheld nunckuck.

when I powered it… motor no go. oh my.

The following faults were registered since start:

Fault : FAULT_CODE_DRV8302 Current : -0.9 Current filtered : 0.8 Voltage : 30.32 Duty : 0.02 RPM : 72.2 Tacho : 8 Cycles running : 3 TIM duty : 792 TIM val samp : 421 TIM current samp : 23542 TIM top : 46242 Comm step : 3 Temperature : 25.85

Was the board fully charged when this happened? The motor’s power goes back through the vesc which might have killed it.

No, storage charge and the board was unpowered.

Now Im getting under voltage faults. motor just stutters. No more DRV faults

Its so frustrating. Was keeping everything on the safe side, 8s, BLDC, and yet the VESC is gone.

Pretty sure the pushing board upowered did the trick, so I would definitely advise against it.

and she’s done.

I read a post on here about pushing while switched off. And some said yes you could kill the vesc. If you have the vesc switched on and pushing it should be fine as long as the battery isn’t full as the regen braking will transfer the power back to the battery. Unsure on what part blows but someone on here may be able to tell you what may have gone.

Using a Caslte Creations Phoenix 80 HV esc. Man I miss the VESC… it’s really night and day difference. can’t live w/o it.

Check out my anti spark solution while the xt90S doesn’t arrive.

Also, while remote doesn;t arrive, running wired nunchuck with custom arduino sketch I wrote to get cruise control. Works pretty well. Brakes when the cord is pulled or let go off the button.

A closer look at my poor man’s 2 stage anti spark loop key. LOL

Got some miles on the board today. It’s riding very nicely and tomorrow I will do a 3K commute to meet a friend at a gas station to drive to our drone testing facility.

Very happy with the build. I’m spoiled, I really NEED my vesc back. The DRV’s should be arriving next week sometime. Other than that, she rides nicely with plenty of torque and pretty good hill climbing ability… I wouldn’t imagine needing a twin motor for now… but that might change with time.

Thank you all for the tips and help.

This turned out really nice, thanks for documenting your build as it progressed and you overcame challenges!

Mad Max switch style! I like how dirty and used it looks
