Good day all, As I didn’t want to hi-jack @Marsen ’s thread (and hereby a big thank you for your reply and help again), here’s something I wanted to explore.
Opinions more than welcome.
I bought my GT in January 2019. Part of the “asset depletion phase” during the divorce. Bloody awesome, having always been a skateboarder and snowboarder.
Since then I travel 2-3 times a year to Perth, Australia. For 5-8 weeks each time. As I broke my leg last year June (snapped both tibia and fibula), I can’t run anymore. Both plates and all bolts were finally removed last week Friday.
I am going to Perth again now in January and want to explore some options.
I only ride AT and only on GT mode. For different reasons I never use any other mode (unless ECO is the only one that gets me back home).
After all these years (and especially now with temperatures close to 0), I am really pushing to get 11km out of it with 2 stops (otherwise it’s 8km only - in one go). My cruising speed is around 24-28 average and doesn’t need to go faster. I love to carve and go “off-road” every day I take it for a spin.
Marsen can help me out building a new 11Ah battery (in Perth), so I can take my GT to Oz. No need to do crazy shit (BMS removal, etc), so that would be great.
However, looking at how more frequently I have used it the past 12 months (ref leg) and how much more I enjoy it …. The range may simply not cut it.
So, option 2 is, I am considering buying the GTR in Australia (1999 AUD ~ 1300 EUR), and then do the battery “swap” the other way around. Leave the original in Perth and buying a battery in Europe. A new GTR here costs 2000 EUR, and a new GTR battery (here) 600 EUR. I’d essentially have two (new) skateboards in two continents with “double” battery life for the European price tag?
No-brainer or concerns I don’t see?
As for other brands: honestly I don’t even bother looking anymore. The satisfaction and quality of my board … it’s like buying your first Levi’s when you’re 14 and never buy another jeans brand. If you know, you know. Double kingpin trucks? Are you kidding me? Bloody amazing.
Another shoutout to the Evolve France team for helping out a few years back. My board ended up in the canal, after saving some random stranger’s puppy in February. Another story for another time, but for under 200 Eur, they fixed the board again.
Thanks and greetings from Belgium
