Im currently modifying my hoverboard wheels to work on a scooter or longboard but i need a 17mm OD tube. any one know where to get it? Supposed to be used for the axle
somewhat expensive, and i dont love their site. but they have damn near everything
Sick! this looks helpful.
Im looking for a hollow shaft so the wires can go thru the axle. not sure if they sell that
emailed them, they dont have what i need lolā¦
time to get creative
you dont need to to be a shaft, just a steel tube would proably work. http://www.mcmaster.com/#steel-hollow-rods/=125dxyn
possibly even aluminum depending on how you are planning on attaching it to the trucks, this stuff is even described as being used as a shaft http://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-aluminum-hollow-tubing/=125dz21
You werenāt kidding about those prices man I need to find a different solution.
I would say, just for testing, clamp them on to some trucks with pipe clamps or something. You dont want to throw a bunch of money into it just to find out it wont work :/
Thatās true. Iām gonna do a test spin up today, Iāll just put a loose fitting bar in there and clamp it. Iām modifying it to work on a scooter not a longboard. Maybe a 3 wheel longboard.
Ah, so are you trying to put an axle through it?
Yes. Iāve already made all the adjustments and drilled the holes for it. My hub motors have two different size bearings so I ordered an extra 17mm ID bearing to match one of them. Last step is to find a fitting shaft lol. Iāll work around that
If you dont have to have the wires go through the middle, mcmaster does have some decently priced shafts.
They either have to go thru the middle directly or I can grind out a small notch on the side of the shaft to have them go out that way. I could use a regular shaft.
It just has to be 17mm and they seem to only have inch. .669in Iām gonna look if that have that
Damn, the closest they come in metric is 16mm http://www.mcmaster.com/#rotary-shafts/=125g9jn (click on metric on the left hand side)
Yea I noticed thatā¦ Iām gonna go to the hardware store for inspiration. I might just use 17mm round bar
Could you get different bearings maybe? or just shim it with some thin aluminum from a discarded beverage container?
I canāt because then it would make finding a right fitting shaft even harder because of the bore on the core of the motor. The part that holds the windings. Iām gonna have to stick with 17. I thought about shimming it but I donāt know how good that would be for motor bearings lol Iāll keep u updated
What do u think about square tube??
Whatās so wrong about this? Itāll have two bearings on it and it fits okay
Iām doing this Iāll let u guys know if itās a complete failure lol
Eh, I donāt see why it would be an issue.
Square shaft? Surely u can find a tube somewhere?
