Sand won’t put out the fire contain it maybe. The main idea behind using water is taking away the heat. As far as I know being a chemical/electrical fire taking out oxygen doesn’t work due to it being a thermal run away. You can’t remove the fuel because the energy stored within the pack. The ignition source is… Itself can’t remove that either. So your left with the counter intuitive option of cooling and water works well. I think Lipos have gotten safer than they were(I said safER). Once they heat and puff and the IR goes high yes they rapidly get hotter but the soft pack split the laminations separate and kind of break the circuit internally.
We’re going to need to coordinate for the contest.

I guess I can understand your reasoning, but eith electrical fires and whatnot I dont think water is the way to go. Cooling the cell wont matter as theyre already going though thermal runoff(runaway? I cant remember the term.)
I said sand because suffocating and snuffing the fire seems like the best option

(I am not a fire fighter) Seems like it. But once you exhaust the fire extinguisher there is a good chance (depending on how big the fire extinguisher was) the battery will still be hot and smuldering or laminations will touch again later on and flare up. There are some vids showing people trying countless dry Chem and CO2 extinguishers it just flares up again. Fire brigade rocks up and drowns it. PS I’m not fire fighter. Just read stuff from the internet made my own small lipo fire in a safe well ventilated area to test the theory some time ago. Then this happened and I felt prepared and it worked out well.
